Sam’s interest in therapy arose during his long career in education where he noticed that teachers often found themselves in counseling situations without the skills to be successful in meeting the needs of their students. The mental health needs of teachers were often similarly not addressed in school environments.  Sam began to investigate these issues during his doctoral studies and later completed an MA in Mental Health Counseling from the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin.

Sam’s interests have widened from the educational sphere and now include helping both adolescents and adults with issues related to anxiety, depression, and substance abuse, family and couples counseling, and suicide prevention. Sam’s most recent experience was at Phoenix House Texas where he participated in group and individual counseling for patients in Austin, Round Rock, San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas.

As a long-time high school teacher and coach, Sam has a particular passion for issues pertaining to adolescence and the nature of the teenaged brain. Sam also brings a unique lifetime of experience to WTCG.  He has lived and worked in Nepal and Japan, was the liaison between the Kansas State Department of Education and the Kansas Native American population,  was a founding member of the Equal Education Opportunities Team at the State Department, and has taught multicultural education, psychology, and courses on the brain and learning  (among other things) at five different universities.

Sam is located on the 6th floor of the Cactus Hotel.
