LOSS Team Meeting

12:00 PM - 01:00 PM

The LOSS Team of TGC will hold 2 meetings each month. One meeting is at noon and the other is in the evening.

During these meetings we will:

  • Debrief any LOSS Team responses (on-scene or delayed)
  • Provide clarification, answer questions, and address any concerns
  • Provide training
  • Discuss on-call scheduling
  • Identify additional needs and resources
  • Provide updates & announcements
  • Discuss fundraising
  • Discuss membership issues

SOS Support Group

The Survivors of Suicide (SOS) Support Group is a group for those who have lost a loved one to suicide. The group is co-facilitated by a survivor of suicide and a mental health professional. Members come to the group to find support and acceptance in a judgement free atmosphere. Prior to attending a group, survivors meet with a counselor to talk about what to expect from the group and to ensure that the group is the appropriate level of support for the survivor.

Behavioral Intervention Skills Class

12:00 PM - 01:00 PM

Learn the most effective methods to help reduce behavior problems in children.

Do you have a child with behavioral problems? If you are a parent or guardian and need help dealing with a child’s difficult behaviors, help is available! Learn how to effectively deal with acting out, how to best implement rewards and consequences, and learn how to empower instead of enable challenging behaviors. The difficult task of co-parenting is addressed, along with how to parent in the stepparent role. 

Class is conducted every Friday from 12pm to 1pm by a Licensed Professional Counselor at West Texas Counseling & Guidance, 36 E Twohig- TheCactus Hotel, 6th Floor. To register, call 325-944-2561.  Cost is only  $20 per participant, and you can pay on the day of the class. No paperwork to fill out.

Clergy Training

Presented by Ben Hubert, M.Div., M.S., LPC. Prior to being a full-time therapist at WTCG, Ben served for 33 years in the pastoral ministry in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Ben specializes in couples counseling and has completed all levels of training from the Gottman Institute: a research-based approach to relationships.

During these training, Ben will discuss:

  • Attachment theory’s three basic questions
  • The Gottman Institute’s research on what makes healthy and unhealthy couples
  • Role of relational repair
  • Four tools for counseling sessions
  • Risks and rewards of duel role pastor/counselor
  • When, why, and how to make referrals
  • Pre-marital counseling
  • Incorporating and encouraging relational renewal and marital maintenance
  • Additional Topics (if time allows):
  • Sexual addiction
  • Domestic violence
