Ben received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1984 and Master of Divinity in 1987; both from Texas Christian University. In 2014, he received a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Angelo State University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. Ben is also an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), with 33 years of experience in the parish setting. Ben is open to working with individuals from all world religions, spirituality, and belief systems, including agnosticism and atheism. Moreover, he is welcoming of clients who wish to integrate their religiosity with therapy.
He is oriented in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and has received training from both The Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in Philadelphia, PA and Christine Padesky Ph.D., renowned psychologist in the field of CBT. Ben is certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy; a specific therapy designed to treat Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and is registered as a CPT provider in the state of Texas. Ben has also completed Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and Treating Affairs and Trauma training from the Gottman Institute. In addition, Ben has completed training from the American Association for Sex Addiction Therapy.
