Joni Abel is a Licensed Master Social Worker in the state of Texas. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in music in 2009, spent a decade in the education field, and, after a career change, graduated with a Master of Social Work in 2023 from Angelo State University. Joni is meeting clinical licensure requirements under the supervision of Jan Lentz, LCSW-S, and also enjoys working as a grant writer in WTCG's Program Development Office.

Joni works with youth and adults of all ages who experience a variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation and attempts, difficulty adjusting to life changes, trauma, self-esteem, and other mental health concerns. She uses strength-based approaches, collaborating with clients to find hope and courage as they meet life's challenges. She is trained in evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). She incorporates aspects of art and spiritual sensitivity within therapy according to her client's needs and preferences.

Joni has been with West Texas Counseling & Guidance since 2021, and her counseling office is located on the 6th floor of the Cactus Hotel.
